Yesterday morning my father was admitted into the hospital for emergency surgery on an infected rotator cuff surgery site (Dad had his rotator cuff repaired on Dec. 17th and before Christmas was still not feeling well- on Wed. morning the fever still spiked and his blood work was not good. The site had become inflamed and it was very obvious it was infected.) So this New Year's Eve was very different. Dad, Mom, my brother Matthew and I spent the evening in the hospital waiting to hear the surgeon's report. At about 10:30 the infectious diseases doctor came in to tell us that dad was going to be on a very strong antibiotic treatment; but they were very encouraged that we had "caught" it in time- there was no infection in the bone or the internal stitches. However, dad would have to be on IV antibiotics for the next 4-6 weeks. But he can do this on an out-patient basis. It was a scary afternoon and night, but we got through it together and had good news in the end. My brother was able to stay with my dad last night so I could come home and be with the children at the "strike" of midnight! The children were so excited to stay up until then and watch the ball drop on tv. I don't think Ladi Elizabeth got it- but Brady told her when she got back to preschool there would be new numbers on her calendar during "circle" time! My dad is feeling much better today and should go home tomorrow!
